State Highway 29 in the lower Kaimai range is closed following a serious crash.

Emergency services responded to the two-vehicle crash on SH29, near Poripori Rd, which was reported to police just before 5pm.

“Initial indications are that there are serious injuries,” police said.

NZTA Waka Kotahi said SH 29 between Tauranga and Te Poi is closed.

“Due to a serious crash in the Lower Kaimai, this section of SH29 is closed. Avoid the area and allow extra time for detour. Please follow directions of response crews in the area.”

Fire and Emergency northern communications centre shift manager Joshua Pennefather said they received a report of the motor vehicle crash at 4.57pm.

“There was a car and a truck with one person trapped,” Pennefather said.

“We sent two fire trucks, from the Greerton and Tauranga stations.
