One dead, two injured in serious two-vehicle crash in Kaimai Range, SH29 remains closed

A person has died and SH29 remains closed after a serious crash on the Waikato side at the foot of the Kaimai Range on Friday afternoon.

A police spokesperson said they responded to the two-vehicle crash around 3.15pm, just east of the intersection with Rapurapu Rd.

“Police can now confirm one person has died in a crash,” they said.

A second person involved in the two-vehicle crash received critical injuries and a third person received serious injuries.

“The road remains closed,” police said.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.

Police earlier said initial reports indicated there were serious injuries.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said two ambulances, one helicopter, one rapid response unit and one operations manager responded to the scene.

“Our ambulance officers have treated one patient in a moderate condition and they are being transported by road ambulance to Tauranga Hospital,” they said.

Another patient in a serious condition was airlifted to the Waikato Hospital.
