Firefighters are at the scene of a serious house fire in Hamilton.

The fire is out, but a flat in a block of three on Wellington St was fully ablaze when firefighters were called just after 6am, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said.

“The fire was well-involved on arrival. It was a block of three flats, with one affected [by a] 30m x 10m fire.”

Asked if everyone was okay, the spokeswoman said there were “persons reported”, the term used when Fire and Emergency are told one or more people may still be inside a fire-affected structure.

She referred further comment to police.

Police have not yet responded to a request for comment.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said they sent an ambulance to the fire.

The Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said two fire trucks were initially sent to the fire, but only one remained as of 6.40am.

“A fire investigator has also just arrived.”
