Six injured in SH29 crash near Kaimai summit, road now clear

New Pope announced and India and Pakistan tensions escalate.

A four-vehicle crash that injured multiple people on State Highway 29 is now clear and the road has reopened.

Police were called to the crash, near the Kaimai summit, at 6.40am and the road was closed with detours in place.

Just after 9am police said the road had reopened.

Hato Hone St John said two ambulance and one rapid response vehicle went to the crash and treated six people.

One person in a serious condition and two in a moderate condition have been taken to Tauranga Hospital.

Three were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

NZTA said the serious multiple-vehicle crash had closed State Highway 29 between State Highway 28 and Hanga Rd, north of the Kaimai lookout.
