Serious crash closes Waikato Expressway off-ramp, diversions in place

A serious crash has closed an off-ramp of the Waikato Expressway.

Emergency services were called to the crash at the northbound Ruakura Rd off-ramp about 9.20am.

Diversions are in place and motorists should avoid the area.

A Hato Hone St John spokesman said two people, one in a serious condition and one in a minor condition, were taken to Waikato Hospital.

Fire and Emergency NZ were called to the scene at 9.19am and were on-site for around 40 minutes.

Two appliances, one from Hamilton and one from Chartwell, attended.

“One person was lightliy trapped so the team used cutting gear to gain access to the person,” a spokesperson for Fire and Emergency said.

“The incident is now with police.”
