One person dies following serious crash on SH2 in Waikato, motorists urged to avoid areas

One person has died following a two-truck collision on State Highway 2, near Maramarua.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 11.42am.

The road remains closed between Monument Rd and Heaven Rd with diversions in place.

The Serious Crash Unit is examining the scene and enquiries into the circumstances are under way.

NZ Transport Agency said the road remains closed in both directions between Monument and Okaeria Rds.

“A detour is available via SH25, Miranda Rd and Monument Rd.”

A crash has also closed part of State Highway 1 at Oruanui, near Taupō.

A crash is blocking SH1 in both directions near Oruanui Rd, the road is closed as a result. A detour is available via Tirohanga Rd, Poihipi Rd, Oruanui Rd, and Link Rd. ^KF pic.twitter.com/d4ZxgW0YNF

Police said they were notified of the two-vehicle crash about 11.50am and motorists were advised to avoid the area and expect delays.

Hato Hone St John said one person was taken to Taupō Hospital in a moderate condition.
