The Rotorua Boys' High School 1st XV team have tasted their first defeat of the season, after losing to reigning national champions Hamilton Boys' High School 16-5.

The two heavyweights in secondary schools rugby clashed in Hamilton on Saturday, during their round three match in the Super 8 competition.

Going into the game, both teams had won their opening two matches.

Despite the result, Rotorua Boys' will still feel they can make the Super 8 final on August 8 but will need to win most, if not all, of their remaining four matches.

Rotorua are on the road again this coming weekend, when they play Hasting Boys' High School 1st XV in Hastings.
