Once again the Pukeatua War Memorial Church was full for their Remembrance Service on November 15 held in conjunction with the RSA, the Defence Force Patriots Motorcycle Club (made up of past and serving members of the New Zealand Defence Forces), Te Awamutu Cadets and past and present locals.

RSA Padre Reverend Murray Oslen and lay licensed minister Kathie Claypole led the service of worship and prayer, with the RSA member reading the Rolls of Honour, laying the wreaths and reciting the Ode in Te Reo by the Patriots Padre and English by RSA president Lou Brown.

During the service the story of Private Horace James Jemmett 12/772 was told.

Horace was the son of James and Martha Jemmett, well known locals.

He joined the Auckland Regiment as a private in 1914 and saw action on the Battlefield at Gallipoli where he was critically wounded at Quinn's Post. He died aboard HMHS Sicilia on the June 9, 1915 aged 22 years.

His parents donated the Brass Cross that sits above the altar in the Pukeatua Church in Horace's memory.

It was fitting that descendants of the Jemmett family were present at this service - Lindy and Chris Beal and Ross and Chris Beal.

A luncheon catered for by the Women's Section of the RSA in the hall concluded Remembrance Day in Pukeatua.
