Police are appealing for help to identify three offenders after a “cowardly” assault in Matangi, near Hamilton.

Last night, two people attempted to speak with the occupants of a dark-coloured Ford Falcon doing noisy burnouts in the semi-rural area.

Police say the trio got out and assaulted the victims. They suffered serious injuries, requiring hospital treatment.

Hato Hone St John confirmed two patients were assessed at the scene before being taken to Waikato Hospital in a moderate condition.
