A man has been arrested in relation to an ongoing homicide investigation into the death of a woman in Tūrangi.

The 27-year-old would appear in Rotorua District Court today charged with breaching a protection order, Detective Inspector Craig Rawlinson said, and more charges are being considered.

Emergency services were called to Hinerangi St in the township 50km southwest of Taupō about 6.30am yesterday, and found a woman dead.

“The investigation is continuing, and as part of this police are still seeking any witnesses to what occurred, and any CCTV or video footage,” Rawlinson said.

“A large police presence will remain in Tūrangi for the next few days as we piece together what happened.”

A resident on Hinerangi St told the Herald yesterday morning ambulance, police and Fire and Emergency were on the scene.

The resident had heard there had been a fight, but knew little more.
