Police are investigating an “appalling” incident in Hamilton, where a woman was assaulted in her home.

Two men tried to enter the woman’s property on Clarkin Rd, Fairfield at around 9pm yesterday and assaulted her after she confronted them, Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Neilson said.

The duo fled the address towards River Rd, leaving the victim with injuries requiring hospitalisation.

“We are urging anyone with any information on this appalling crime to come forward,” Neilson said.

“Nobody should be unsafe in their own home and the victim is understandably shaken. We’re providing wrap-around support for her.

“If you know something about this abhorrent crime, please come forward as soon as possible. Even the smallest detail could be crucial.”

Police will be patrolling the area, Neilson said.

Officers are working to establish the full circumstances and have asked anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the neighbourhood around Clarkin Rd to look for “suspicious or unusual activity”.

Neilson said anyone who sees such activity should contact police.

Officials are particularly interested in the period between 8.30-9.30pm on Saturday.

The police can be contacted online at 105.police.govt.nz, clicking “update report”, or by calling 105, using the reference number 260215/9344.

Anonymous reports can be made through Crime Stoppers, by calling 0800 555 111.
