A student who went missing yesterday was in a "distressed state" and police have concerns for her safety.

Daniella Cortez, a 17 year-old Colombian, went missing in Hamilton and was last seen at 1pm yesterday.

Ms Cortez is of African-American ethnicity, has dark skin, is of large build and had dreadlocks down her back.

Hamilton Police said members of the public should call 111 or contact their nearest police station if they see Ms Cortez.
