Six people have been arrested after a riotous party spilled into the street in Waikato.

Police were called around midnight to break up the Huntly party, which 60 people were attending

Detective Sergeant Dean Anderson said people were fighting, smashing bottles and yelling in the street.

Two local police cars called for back-up because of the agitated mood of the crowd and their risky behaviour.

When other units arrived, the crowd became destructive, throwing a brick through a patrol car windscreen and a rock through a side window of a police van.
