Police continue to appeal to the driver of a vehicle who may help piece together the circumstances of a horror car crash that left four people dead, to come forward.

Authorities are still searching for a white or light-coloured hatchback car, or similar vehicle, thought to be travelling with a Nissan Skyline involved in a the fatal crash in Hamilton on Friday night.

The Nissan Skyline collided with a Toyota van on State Highway 3 shortly before 10pm.

All four occupants of the Nissan died instantly.

Those killed were Waipa locals Lance Tyrone Robinson, 28, Paul De Silva, 20, Hannah Lei Strickett-Craze, 24, and 19-year-old Jason McCormick Ross, of Taranaki.

Witnesses have said they saw the Nissan travelling with the smaller vehicle earlier that evening.

The driver and sole occupant of the van suffered serious leg injuries and is now recovering in Waikato Hospital.

A hospital spokeswoman said tonight the man was now in a stable condition and is in a ward.

Detective Sergeant Mata John said: "We are interested to hear from anyone who has information about a white hatchback or similar car that may have been travelling with the white Nissan Skyline involved in the crash.

"The driver of that vehicle needs to come forward as we believe they will have information that can assist in piecing together the circumstances of that night."

Mr John also appealed to a female driver of a red car who stopped at the scene of the crash - as she too may have useful information for police.
