Police have arrested a 17-year-old male after a Hamilton dairy worker was attacked by two masked robbers with a machete.

Sandip Patel suffered a fractured skull and cuts to his hands and head after the attack last Tuesday.

Two offenders entered the Emm Jay Dairy in Hamilton East and attacked Patel before taking off with the till and cigarettes.

They were also armed with an axe.

Sandip received stitches to the head at Waikato Hospital and was in a stable condition, his nephew said.

Police have arrested a 17-year-old after multiple searches this morning.

He would appear in the Hamilton District Court charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated wounding.

Police said Patel was still recovering from his significant head and hand injuries.

Police were also still looking for a 16-year-old in relation to the robbery.
