Award winning poet Bob Orr will be part of the August Hamilton Book Month poetry day panel.

Hamilton Book month rolls on through August with a National Poetry Day event at Creative Waikato on August 25.

The event has poets Bob Orr, Vaughan Rapatahana and Stephanie Christie reading their poems and talking about how they craft their writing.

The book month will close with a writing workshop with award winning author, David Hill.
The workshop on August 26 will focus on writing for young adults and children.

Hill's first book, a young adult novel, See ya, Simon, won the 1994 Times Educational Supplement award for Special Needs.

Book month launched at the start of August with high turnouts during its first three events at the Lido and the Meteor theatres.

The month started with Cracking the Code, an event where local writers Angela Cuming, Dani Nicholson and Gary Farrow gave a master class on how to write and sell work.

Author speed-dating was then on the agenda with audience members taking in success stories from local writers.

The writers were tasked with talking about their work, but only within the four minute allocated time slot.

The Meteor played host to a crowd of 140 people for the women writers event. Authors Catherine Chidgey, Nicky Pellegrino and Danielle Hawkins read from their latest work and talked about their personal writing habits.
