Several hours later the resident heard a car doing a burnout on the road and was just about to walk outside to shift his car parked on the road when he heard the car slam into the tree outside the house where the party was.

"It came up the road and did a hand brake u-turn and then come down outside the house and did a handbrake u-turn into a tree."

He went over to help and saw party goers drag the unconscious driver from the car. The two other occupants received moderate injuries.

"Everyone (party goers) was really hostile like they wanted to have a fight."

Another person was taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition after their car went off the road into a paddock at Tirohanga in the Eastern Bay of Plenty just before 10pm on Saturday.
