A person is fighting for their life after being hit by a car in Hamilton.

The incident happened on Grandview Rd, Nawton about 6.45pm, a police spokeswoman said.

The injured person was taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition, St John ambulance said.

The Serious Crash Unit was on the way to the scene.
