A man has been critically injured after crashing his car into a house in Waikato.

Emergency services are at the scene of the crash, on Great South Rd near the AFFCO New Zealand Horotiu meat processing plant, north of Hamilton.

St John said a man in his 30s was taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

Police said initial reports from the scene suggest only one person was in the vehicle and no one from the house was injured.

Great South Rd, between Horotiu Rd and Anzac St East, was closed and diversions were in place.
