One person has died in a collision between a motorcycle and a van in central Hamilton this afternoon.

Police and ambulance services were called to the scene on the corner of Clarence and Tristram Sts at around 4.30.

A St John's spokesman confirmed one person had died in the accident and two others were taken to Waikato Hospital with minor injuries.

Police senior sergeant Damion Rangitutia said this evening cordons were still in place at Tristram St and Thackeray St and also Tristram St and Cobham Drive.
