The world's fastest growing photo printing app is set to appear in New Zealand on Monday, with Warehouse Stationary teaming up with developer Hamilton-based Macfarlane Engel and Associates (MEA) to bring the company's Printicular app to Kiwis.
Downloaders of the free app will be able to print photos directly fromtheir phone to any of the 66 Warehouse Stationary stores in the country for same-day pickup.
MEA co-founder Gabriel Engel said the app would also have a geo-locate function, allowing users to automatically connect with the nearest store.
"It allows you to access photos, not just from your phone but also from all across your social media. The idea is you can push print anywhere,any time. The app also alerts you when your photos are ready to pick up."
He said there was also a security advantage to having physical photos, with some phone users concerned about the security of their phones and storing photos on the cloud.
Users of Printicular pay for photos on pickup, which Mr Engel said was great for people who did not want to register a credit card.
The app first launched in the United States in 2012 across 9000 Walgreens stores, and since then more than 10 million photos have been printed using the service. MEA are also poised to enter into a partnership with Kodak in Germany across 16,000 stores.
