In the fourth week of the Vege King indoor open premier grade there was an unpredicted result with FTNC Premier winning their game against New World Rototuna Suburbs Premier.

FTNC Premier started well and had a particularly strong first quarter to lead by 12 goals. Despite Rototuna Suburbs Premier winning the next three quarters they were not able to gather enough momentum to take the win. The final score was 53 goals to 49.

Rototuna Suburbs Premier will take away one point for being within five goals. For FTNC Grace Namana at goal shoot was a strong target offering both short and long options.

Namana managed to pull in some big balls under pressure and she shot accurately at 84%.

Alix Boe at centre was dynamic in the mid court showing experience in controlling the pace of the ball on attack and picking up numerous intercepts on defence.

Rachel Beale at goal keep then goal defence had another strong performance obtaining turnover ball. For Rototuna Suburbs they were too slow to start.

The team showed great character and dug deep for the remainder of the game in what was quite a physical encounter.

In the game between the teams newly promoted, FTNC Premier 1 came away with their first win in the competition against Hautapu Premiers.

FTNC Premier 1 also started strongly to be ahead by 12 goals at the end of the first quarter.

The rest of the game was quite close with a see sawing of quarters with Hautapu Premiers winning the second and fourth quarters.

The full-time score was 45 goals to 39. FTNC Premier 1 put together a solid and consistent team performance to take the win with each player doing their job.

For Hautapu Premier they were slow to start and initially lacked the intensity and focus required. But after this they made good use of the ball with fast release and some skilled front cutting by the attacks.

Strong combined defence by the whole team forced the FTNC Premier 1 team to slow down. Student Keeley Portegys at goal attack had an impressive game.

In the game between Uni Premier and First Credit Union Verdettes Marist this was a fierce and close encounter in the first quarter with the score 20 goals to 15.

Verdettes Marist then faltered in the second quarter and this allowed Uni Premier to get a good lead and they restricted Verdettes Marist to just two goals in the quarter.

The final score was 71 goals to 31.

For Uni Premier the strong defensive duo of Rachael Fabling and Amy Christophers caused havoc and preventing the Marist team from converting crucial ball into goals.

Ariana Cable-Dixon at centre then wing attack was the player of the match with a high work rate on attack including good vision into the circle and her defence of the ball. For Verdettes Marist, Jaz Hemington at goal attack moved strongly and shot well.
