It was finals for the Montana Catering Monday night Secondary Schools competition on Monday night.

The A grade final proved to be a highly competitive and skilled game with huge spectator support. Both teams displayed a lot of athletic ability and agility, determination and guts.

Essentially the players gave everything that they had with all desperately wanting the win. This was the first time in the A final for both teams so a lot was at stake.

From the first whistle you knew this game would be close and a real nail bitter. At the end of the first quarter St Paul's Collegiate Open A had a narrow two goal lead only to see Morrinsville College Open A reverse the tables to lead by a goal at half time.

The half time score was 21 goals to 20. The third quarter was goal for goal and drawn.

In the final quarter St Paul's managed to claw their way to the front and took the win at the final whistle. The final score was 44 goals to 42.

All players and their management can stand tall and proud as this was a truly fitting final.

For St Paul's Collegiate, Sophie Carr Paterson at wing attack controlled the attacking end of the court and had an outstanding game.

Kate Littlejohn at goal keep then goal defence also had a great game leading the defence end and showing strength in bringing the ball through court on attack. She was ably assisted by the other defenders who all did their jobs. All three shooters spent time on court, each bringing their individual styles to the game achieving an overall shooting percentage of 86%.

Teri Wathen-Smith at centre and captain of the team led the team well. For Morrinsville College, the team was great defensively throughout the court and they obtained a lot of turnover ball.

Twins Alison and Alysha Priestley playing at goal attack and centre respectively played exceptionally well and they showed maturity controlling their emotions under pressure. Alison as captain also led the team admirably.

Tiana Parker at goal keep had a great game and has really found a niche for herself in defence.

In the game for 3rd and 4th in the A grade HGHS Premier beat Waikato Diocesan Open A 45 goals to 31.

In the B grade final Otorohanga College A started well to have a five goal advantage at the end of the first quarter. By half time Huntly College Senior A had recovered to only trail by one goal. The half time score was 23 goals to 22.

The third quarter was again close with Otorohanga only able to extend their lead by another goal. However in the final quarter Otorohanga stepped it up a gear and dominated winning the game 49 goals to 39.
