Motorists, walkers and cyclists will face a number of disruptions and detours around Hamilton this week as work is done on a number of projects - including an overnight crane lift in Victoria Street.

WESTERN RAIL TRAIL
A stretch of the Western Rail Trail between Fraser Street and Lake Road will be closed this week, to allow maintenance and repair work to be done.

The closure is from 9am on Monday 4 March until 5pm on Friday 8 March.

Signed detours will be in place via Queens Avenue on the footpath and on-road cycle lane for people who bike, scooter and walk this section of the Rail Trail.

During this closure Northpower will be working on an electrical fault which lies under a part of this section of the Rail Trail.

With the closure the opportunity is also being taken by the Council's Infrastructure Alliance team to raise a manhole to the level of the footpath surface.

Hamilton City Council reminds people walking, biking and scootering to take their usual care travelling along or across roads while detoured from the Rail Trail.

VICTORIA STREET
A section of the northbound only lane of Victoria St between Alma Street and and Collingwood Street will close overnight tonight - Monday 4 March.

The council says the closure which will run from 8pm Monday to 5am Tuesday to allow private work at 391 Victoria St apartment block, with a crane required to remove an internal set of concrete stairs.

The work is being done at this time to minimise disruption for those moving around or through the central city.

Signed detours will be in place for road users and pedestrians.

RIVER PATH BELOW VICTORIA BRIDGE
A short section of the river path below Victoria Bridge will be closed intermittently this week while cleaning of the Victoria Bridge continues.

The council says section to be closed runs immediately underneath the bridge, on the city (western) side of the Waikato River.

The closures, between 9am and 3pm each day, are to allow for the construction of scaffolding essential to the bridge project.

The detour takes path users across Grantham St, rejoining the path south of the bridge near the Waikato Rowing Club building in Roose-Commerce Park.

The stairs leading from Grantham St to the Victoria Bridge are also currently unavailable.

The council says water blasting to clean the bridge starts shortly, and an approved water management plan is in place to ensure the efficient and considered use of this water.

If the city's Water Alert Level moves beyond Level 2, water use will be reviewed.
