A man found seriously injured in the toilets of a Hamilton bar had boot marks on his face and head, police say.

The man was taken by ambulance to Waikato Hospital after police were called to Keystone Bar in Victoria St about 1.45am this morning.

A Waikato District Health Board spokeswoman said he was discharged this morning.

Senior Sergeant Pete van de Wetering, of Hamilton Police, said the man was found unconscious in the men's toilets but police knew little more at this stage.

"He's been pretty seriously assaulted. There are punches but clearly kicks to the head as well. There were clear boot marks on the victim's face and head."

Hamilton CIB was investigating, including reviewing any CCTV footage, but he did not know if officers had been able to speak to the injured man, van de Wetering said.

Anyone with information should call Hamilton police on (07) 858 6200 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
