Mitre 10 MEGA Hamilton has announced the lucky local winner of a prize pack valued at more than $3000. David and Patricia from Fitzroy, Hamilton, won a new stainless-steel barbecue and outdoor fireplace.

David said he was stunned when he received a phone call from Mitre 10 MEGA Hamilton to inform him of his win.

"I was shocked, but delighted to discover I'd won. We never thought we were going to win as we only entered once," said David.

The couple have a two-year-old daughter and Patricia is 8 months pregnant with their second daughter.

"He's out numbered now," laughed Patricia. Patricia and David moved to Hamilton from London just over a year ago due to a shortage of surgeons in New Zealand.

"Everyone's so welcoming here. In London you can't say hi to your neighbour; it would be weird to even know their name," said Patricia.

Mitre 10 MEGA Hamilton's CEO, Clifford Buchler, said he was delighted to be able to deliver the prize to the family.

"Being part of the community is an essential part of what makes Mitre 10 MEGA so special. We are locally owned and operated, and being able to make a difference to families like David and Patricia's is part of what makes us love being a Waikato business. Hopefully they'll have us all around for a barbecue one day."

"We hold lots of events as part of our local Waikato community, such as our Garden Evenings, and Ladies' Nights, which all have fantastic activities and prizes that the community love," said Clifford.
