A large turrnout is expected on Saturday for the reopening of Hamilton's Waterworld swimming complex, with entry to the pools free as part of the opening event, The Big Splash.

Waterworld has been closed since February for a $10.8 million refurbishment, which has included replacing of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, filtration and pump equipment for the pools, and an increase of 20cm to the depth of the 50m pool.

The Big Splash is a welcome back event to Waterworld users, and will run from 10am to 2pm. The complex will remain open until 8pm after the activities.

With a large crowd expected to converge on Waterworld, streets around the complex will be under traffic control to ensure traffic control through the neighbourhood and residents will have access to and from their homes.

Waterworld staff will also operate a "one in, one out" entry policy and if the complex is deemed to be at capacity, it is likely some patrons may need to wait to enter.

As part of the day, customers will be given tours of areas usually off-limits to the public.
There will also be inflatable attractions for children, and opportunities to try the new Glidefit equipment and paddleboats.

There have been operation changes made to both Waterworld and the Gallaghers Aquatic Centre, with both facilities opening times changing.

Waterworld's 50m pool will be open from 5.30am to 8pm on weekdays, 7am to 8pm on Saturdays, and 9am to 8pm on Sundays.

The 25m and toddler pool will open from 8am to 8pm on weekdays.

The Gallagher's Aquatic Centre will be open from 6am to 8pm on weekdays, and 6.30am to 8pm on weekends. It will be closed on all public holidays.

Price changes have also been made to Waterworld. Adults will now pay $7.50 at Waterworld, while children up to 16 years will be charged $4.
