Weston Vickers looks on as his brother Logan attempts a cartwheel ahead of the Kids Commando Challenge in October.

Weston Vickers looks on as his brother Logan attempts a cartwheel ahead of the Kids Commando Challenge in October.

Come October, brothers Logan, 10, and Weston Vickers will be cartwheeling, forward rolling and sack hopping their way around Flagstaff Park.

Typically energetic boys, the Hukanui School students will be burning off energy as part of the Kids Commando Challenge event, run in conjunction with the Hamilton Half Marathon.

Logan took part last year and Weston will join his brother this time around.

Open to children aged 5-12, the event sees all entrants start with a 1km run. From there, all ages walk the plank, caterpillar crawl under tarpaulin, sack hop, commando crawl through tunnels, flip or tumble (cartwheel, forward roll or pencil roll), and weave around poles. Then participants aged 9-12 also do hurdles and a tyre dash before finishing with a short run.

The event starts and finishes at Flagstaff Park, Commodore Ave. Entry is $15 and it starts at 11.15am. There are spot prizes and a mdeal for all who finish.
