A smashed vehicle used in a petrol station ram raid led police on a high-speed chase around the streets of Hamilton early today.

A police spokeswoman said a speeding car failed to stop on Wairere Drive about 3.30am.

It quickly became apparent the vehicle had been involved in a
ram raid at a Hamilton petrol station on Peachgrove Rd, she said.

The wanted vehicle sped off, leading police on a 15-minute chase circling streets of Te Rapa and Pukete.

The vehicle was finally abandoned on Wairere Drive.

"When the vehicle stopped three people were arrested and the cash register from the ram raid was recovered from the vehicle," said the spokeswoman.
