Hamilton Wanderers premier women's team was the star of the weekend as it pulled off a shock win over league leaders Glenfield Rovers in the LottoNRFL.

They were defeated by fourth place Forrest Hill last week, but this week the Hamilton side put their woes behind them as goals from Ella Golding and Chelsea Elliots were enough to condemn Glenfield to only their second loss of the season.

The result still leaves Hamilton Wanderers in fifth place, but only six points behind first, making this league one of the tightest in recent history.

Across the other side of the city, Claudelands Rovers' woes continued as they were defeated 4-0 by champions Three Kings United.

It was Claudelands stalwart Eilesh Hayes 150th game, and last game for the club, as she will leave for the United Kingdom on a football scholarship.

Claudelands played a strong first half, but were unable to push forward in the second half, with Three Kings scoring all four goals in that half.

The result still leaves Claudelands rooted firmly to the foot of the table on just one point.

In the men's league, Hamilton Wanderers fell to a 2-1 defeat against Eastern Suburbs.

Tommy Semmy put the home side 1-0 up but was sent off early in the second half for a second yellow card.

Eastern Suburbs scored two quick goals via Campbell Strong and Hayden Johns, giving the Auckland side a 2-1 win on the day.

Claudelands Rovers promotion hopes were dented as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Cambridge FC.

Cambridge started on the front foot, dominating much of the first half and scoring through Josh Clarkin in the 27th minute.

Owen Comber brought Claudelands level with a terrific solo goal 10 minutes after.

The 16 year old danced through two Cambridge defenders and kept his balance as he chipped the opposition keeper from an acute angle. The shot bounced off the corner of the crossbar before bouncing over the line.

Melville United continues to run rampant at the top of the table securing a 2-0 win against North Shore United.

Jama Boss scored twice in his race to win the golden boot for division one this season.
