Deteriorating weather and ground conditions have led to the postponement of a planned tree removal job at Hamilton Lake Domain today which would have involved closing a section of the popular boardwalk through the Domain
Hamilton City Council had arranged for an 80-tonne crane to be brought onto the domainto remove a group of trees hanging over the boardwalk at the southwestern edge of the lake.
The job was scheduled to take all day and required closure of a section of the boardwalk near Hamilton Yacht Club.
However, the job has been abandoned for the day, and the boardwalk is expected to reopen for public use about 10.30 this morning.
The job will be rescheduled for a later date. The council said last week a group of 17 trees are in poor condition and have been identified as a risk to both path users and the wooden boardwalk, refurbished in late 2016.
When the work is rescheduled, walkers and runners using the boardwalk will need to leave the path at the Hamilton Yacht Club building, detour via Lake Cres, and then rejoin the boardwalk via the access path between 122 and 116 Lake Cres.
