A man who suffered minor stab wounds to his back has discharged himself from Waikato Hospital.

He, along with others involved in the incident, are also refusing to help police with their inquiries, Waikato police Senior Sergeant Pete van de Wetering said today.

The stabbing occurred at a Glenview property sometime overnight, van de Wetering said, and even though police know was involved none of them appeared to be helping police with their inquiries.

"We are investigating a relatively minor stabbing incident. We don't know how this has come about because the people involved are being uncooperative with police. However, at some point a man has presented at the hospital with minor stab wounds to his back."

Police were carrying out a scene examination of the property, he said.

"We don't have any concerns for the safety of the man because he has discharged himself from hospital."

Van de Wetering didn't believe the incident was gang related.
