The Hamilton property.

Tributes flowed last night for Brandon Dempsey, 23, who died after going through a ranch-slider at a Tattersfield Place property in Hamilton he shared with his mother.

He has been described by family and friends as the doting father of a toddler son. "RIP ... such a good happy boy, doting daddy, taken far to early ... love to all family," friend Leanne Ann wrote on Facebook.

Others offered support for Dempsey's sister, Nicole, and mother, Tracey.

Detective Sergeant Matt Cranshaw confirmed there was a domestic incident earlier but that police were only called because Dempsey was injured. They could not say exactly how.

A neighbour told the Herald on Sunday Dempsey went through a door he thought was open. When police arrived he was lying on the driveway with injuries to his neck. He was taken to Waikato Hospital but died during surgery.
