Claudelands Croquet Club is looking for new members to play the new and popular "in game", golf croquet.

Club president Sue Clark says it is different from what is known as association croquet.

In the shorter and more simple game of golf croquet each player takes a turn and the object is to be the first to hit their ball through each hoop.

Tactics revolve around preventing opponents from making the hoop and gaining a position of advantage.

Sue says games can be played as either singles or doubles.

"Golf croquet is easily picked up, challenging at all levels and a game for all ages," she says.

"Competitions and tournaments are held throughout the year and Claudelands hosts many of these."

Newcomers are welcome to play on a casual basis for a temporary period and coaching is available.

Golf croquet is played on Tuesday afternoon and on Friday mornings and afternoons.

The club, situated at 44 Oxford St, Hamilton, holds its opening day on September 3.
