The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the Hakarimata Summit Track around 1pm after the teenager tripped and fell while going down the steps.

The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the Hakarimata Summit Track around 1pm after the teenager tripped and fell while going down the steps.

A 13-year-old girl has suffered head and back injuries after falling while on a Waikato walking track this afternoon.

The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the Hakarimata Summit Track around 1pm after the teenager tripped and fell while going down the steps.

A St John paramedic and police SAR member were winched down to the girl.

Due to her injuries she was stretcher winched, along with the paramedic, into the helicopter.

She was transported to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.
