Five people have been injured in a crash in Putāruru, South Waikato.

Police were called to the two-vehicle crash on State Highway 1, near Bridge St, about 1.50pm, a spokesperson said.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said: “Five patients were assessed and taken to Waikato Hospital in total, three in moderate condition and two in serious condition.

“Two of the patients (one serious and one moderate) were airlifted, with the remaining patients transported by road ambulance.”

Police said the road may be blocked while emergency services are in attendance.

“Motorists are advised to take care around the area and expect delays.”

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said one person had to be extracted from a vehicle.
