Four boaties were rescued from a sinking vessel on the Raglan Bar after issuing an urgent mayday call.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand said crews successfully responded to the incident yesterday and everyone on board was plucked to safety.

The Coastguard said it received the mayday call just after 10am for a capsized vessel with four people on board, on the north side of the Raglan bar.

Surf Life Saving communications then immediately alerted surf lifeguards in Raglan via radio.

The Raglan Search and Rescue squad was also made aware of the emergency.

Raglan surf lifeguards responded in an inflatable rescue boat and rescue water craft alongside the Coastguard.

All four people were successfully removed from the water and returned to shore safely.

The people were then handed over to ambulance crews to be assessed, Surf Life Saving New Zealand said.

Hato Hone St John responded with one ambulance.

Two people in moderate condition and two in minor condition were assessed and treated at the scene.
