Flood risk for Waipa

Waikato residents are being warned to be on alert as heavy rain is expected to cause flooding of the Waipa River today.

From 8am-3pm, a further 40-60mm of rainfall is expected with 70-90mm of rain for Mt Ruapehu.

Farmers in the Waipa River catchment area and west coast are urged to keep up to date on water levels and to move stock to higher ground if necessary.

Waikato Regional Council  is urging residents to avoid taking risks in flooded areas as surface road flooding and slips are possible with potential problems with road access.

The council's regional hazards and emergency management team say they are monitoring the ? situation closely and will provide further advice as necessary.
