Trust Waikato Hamilton City Netball Centre Indoor Premier Championship Round Results, Week 5.

Uni Premier 78 v New World Rototuna Suburbs Premier 37.
FTNC Premier 50 vs Verdettes Marist Old Girls 51.
New World Rototuna Suburbs Premier Reserves 31 vs FTNC Premier Reserve 47.

In the fifth and final week of the Trust Waikato Hamilton City Netball Centre indoor open premier grade championship round there was a close and fierce game to determine third and fourth place.

The game between FTNC Premier and Verdettes Marist Old Girls was intense and strongly contested. It can best be described as a see-sawing game with first one then the other winning a quarter.

The half time score was 27 goals to 23 to FTNC Premier and at the final whistle the score was 51 goals to 50 to Verdettes Marist Old Girls.

Verdettes Marist Old Girls were short on players but were confident coming into the game based on current form.
However, it all came down to the wire and the final few minutes with Marist Old Girls getting a turnover ball to break a two-goal buffer and to win in the final seconds.

For these mums finishing third is an achievement they are proud of. Niki Crombie showed good speed at wing attack in the second half and Hayley Stockman at goal shoot was cool under pressure and shot the winning goal.

Tennille McDonald at centre and wing defence had a smart game and Rachel Beale at goal defence was dominant on defence once again.
Overall a good result. For FTNC Premier it was a strong and valiant effort from the 10 players that took the court.

Changes were made at each quarter but at the end they were not able to hang on to the fragile lead.

In the other FTNC game competing for fifth and sixth place it was a different result with the Premier Reserve team taking a win over New World Rototuna Suburbs Premier Reserve.

The game started close with only three goals in it at the end of the first quarter and the final quarter was a draw but the damage was done in the second and third quarters with the FTNC Premier Reserve team dominating.

The half time score was 26 goals to 14 and the final score was 47 goals to 31. FTNC Premier Reserve are happy with the result having only been promoted up into the indoor premier competition mid-season as a young team who have been hindered by injuries this season.
All 10 available players took the court.

Strong solid defensive work paid off with Vanessa Mace at both goal defence and goal keep working tirelessly to secure rebounds, making intercepts and offering options on the transverse line.

At wing defence, Shariann Rangitaawa's pressure was relentless causing turnovers and she showed speed driving through the midcourt to help bring the ball through to the shooters.

Laura Hutchison again was consistent as goal shoot scoring 37 goals from 39 attempts. Hutchison received some great feeds from the goal attacks and the mid courters who moved the ball around and kept the defence guessing.

When the passes didn't connect it was good to see the attacking end quickly transition onto defence.

For the opposing team Sonya Noble at goal shoot shot well under pressure but overall luck did not go their way and too many mistakes were made.

In the game between the top two teams and leading into finals next week, Uni Premier showed no mercy in their game against New World Rototuna Suburbs Premier getting seven consecutive goals before Suburbs Premier could even get one goal on the scoreboard.

Against a team like Uni Premier you are only going to be punished by a slow start.

Overall it was a polished performance by Uni Premier with fast accurate attack and lethal unrelenting defence.

The half time score was 43 goals to 23 and the final score was 78 goals to 37.

For Uni Premier it was a consistent effort by all players getting on court. They still hope to improve in the final next week and will be training hard.

The standout performers were Laura Langman at centre and Jessie Taane at goal attack.

Suburbs Premier made changes every quarter but will no doubt be rethinking their strategy prior to the finals next week so as not to have a repeat.
