One person dead in SH30 crash at Ātiamuri near Rotorua

One person has died in a crash at Ātiamuri, southwest of Rotorua.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash on State Highway 30 about 5am.

“One person died at the scene,” police said.

“Another person was taken to Rotorua Hospital with moderate injuries.”

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash.

The road has now reopened.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said two crews from Rotorua went to the crash.

Police urged drivers to take extra care on the roads across Bay of Plenty, with icy conditions reported.

There had been crashes across the region with ice creating dangerous driving conditions, police said.

“Please – slow down, watch your following distance, and use your headlights.

“We want everyone to get where they’re going safely.”
