Hamilton News editor Danielle Nicholson and Advance Wellness personal trainer Lynsey Graham in training for this weekend's Hamilton Half Marathon 5km event.

Hamilton News editor Danielle Nicholson and Advance Wellness personal trainer Lynsey Graham in training for this weekend's Hamilton Half Marathon 5km event.

With the Hamilton Half Marathon just over a week away, my trainer partner - personal trainer Lynsey Graham from Advance Wellness & Physiotherapy - and I have been trying to fit in plenty of training runs.

We've entered the 5km fun run event along with a bunch of colleagues. We've been aiming for at least one run together each week and one or two on our own as our schedules allow.

Having completed our running school training with Lynsey's colleague, running coach Kate Caetano, our aim is to finish the 5km injury-free.

We've both been enjoying our training sessions. The runs have been comfortable and we've even managed some (slightly breathless) conversation on our jaunts around the 5km course.

Admittedly I've had to ease up to a brisk walk on some of the hillier parts of the course but so far we've both managed to do the 5kms in about 35 minutes. Not too bad.

The Hamilton News and Advance Wellness participants are also raising money for Waikato Family Centre - a very worthy cause given the incredible support that this under-funded organisation provides to local families.

If you'd like to donate to our Family Centre fundraiser please visit givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/runforwaikatofamilycentre/donations. At the time of writing donations stood at $212 - we'd love to be able to donate $1000 if we can. Every little bit helps and we appreciate all your support!

Hamilton Half Marathon is on Sunday, October 2. There are categories to suit the whole family including the half marathon, 5km and 10km runs and walks and a Kids' Commando Challenge. You can still enter right up until the day of the event - see www.hamiltonhalfmarathon.org.nz for entry details.
