It was hair raising stuff.

Community Radio Hamilton's 89FM project raised more than $1000 when the razors came out for Buzz the Fuzz in Frankton.

City councillor Dave Macpherson lost what was left of his once proud locks, the hair on his legs, and even his eyebrows.

Community Constable Willie Cuthers lost his hair but managed to hold on to his beard - by a whisker.

The project is to help provide a stronger, independent voice in the media for our whole community and Waikato-wide.

Cr Macpherson was initially treated to a close head shave. However, National MP Tim Macindoe put up $50, matched by the crowd, to see Dave's legs shaved.

Then a surprise bid by fellow councillor Ewan Wilson saw the eyebrows come off.

Community Radio appreciated generous sponsors Trev's Barbershop, the blokes at the Frankton Butchers, the Hamilton Cook Island Association, volunteers and the generous Frankton Market community.

Station manager Phil Grey says it was a fun day with a great atmosphere.
