A section of State Highway 25 in Coromandel has reopened after an injured person was found on Kopu Rd.

Police said they were called to the scene about 5.50am after a person was found with serious injuries.

They have now established that the person had suffered a medical event.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said one ambulance and one helicopter went to the scene, and one person was airlifted to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

SH25 between Kopu Rd and SH26 was closed for a time but has since reopened.
