Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) in Kent St, Frankton, is being temporarily transferred at the end of the month to Garden Place offices in Central Hamilton.

The move is necessary as Hamilton City Council is selling the Frankton building.

CAB's management committee chair Mary McChesney says there are big and brighter plans afoot.

"We are working hard to find premises to combine all our city operations under one roof. Ideally, we would like to be able to share a new central hub with other voluntary organisations that similarly serve the public's needs."

The bureau has been operating in Hamilton for 40 years.

Mary says the organisation assists anybody who needs help and offers a range of services, including free brief legal consultations, consumer advice and advocacy and one-on-one help with personal problems.

"All our offices are linked in to a nationwide computer network that allows volunteer interviewers to find information on matters like renting, hire purchase, power and telephone supplies, cheap meals, flatting, neighbour disputes and drink or drug problems.

"If we can't help immediately, we can refer people to agencies who will be able to help," she says.
