From the beginning of July about 4000 Hamilton Households will be affected by planned changed to recycling and rubbish collection days.

The growth of the city and changes to Hamilton's boundary has led to some recycling and refuse collection areas becoming significantly larger than others.

Hamilton Council says it has been working to come up with changes that will ensure all five collection areas are sized for efficient and effective collection services, and also incorporate new properties that came into the city from Waikato district on 1 July last year.

Hamilton City Council's Tim Harty said Council will this month be distributing letters to those households whose recycling and refuse collection days are changing.

"Households who do not receive any direct communication from Council informing them their recycling and refuse collection days are changing will retain their usual day. Those who are unsure or would like additional information about the changes can visit the Council website, www.hamilton.co.nz, or phone 07 838 6999."

Hamilton households can place two refuse bags on the kerbside for collection each week, as well as recycling in official Hamilton City Council recycling crates.

RECYCLING AND REFUSE GUIDELINES

Two refuse bags per week per household.

Bags up to 60 litres in size and 20kg in weight.

Wrap broken glass and sharp objects before placing in refuse.

Recyclables in official Hamilton City Council crates only.
