Marathon man Bruce Tronell will complete his 40th distance event when he crosses the line in next weekend's Hamilton Half Marathon.

He will be celebrating 10 years since he survived cancer by joining hundreds of other athletes and walking the half marathon's rural course from the Flagstaff Club.

One of the attractions for Bruce is that the October 6 Hamilton Half event lists the Child Cancer Foundation as its benefitting charity.

As well as participating in endurance events, Bruce has been a staunch supporter of the annual Cancer Society's Relay for Life, the 24-hour fun fundraiser. As a survivor he is proud to take part to pay homage to his fellow survivors - as well as those less fortunate. Bruce has done 10 relays.

He says every time he takes part in an event it reinforces his decision to undergo the surgery for prostate cancer.

"Getting over cancer requires a positive, can do attitude. People must do it for themselves," he says.

He also completed the Round Lake Taupo Challenge in a time of 21 hours - the same year he kicked off the Bruce Tronell Motorsport for Life Trust. The charity targets youngsters who have been affected by cancer and those with permanent disabilities.

The trust makes possible activities that the children would not normally experience. Like the November 30 Rides in the Park event down at Hamilton lake when 80-odd heavy trucks, race cars and hot air balloons will give the thrill of a lifetime to deserving kids.

Bruce says he can never repay trust sponsors - people from Porter Hire, Ebbett Holden and the like who make his events possible.

"And Andrew at the Shoe Clinic who has provided me with walking shoes for every one of my events for the past 10 years."

Join Bruce at the Hamilton Half Marathon in the half marathon run/walk or the 10km or 5km distances.
