A pedestrian suffered moderate injuries after a hit and run on Tauwhare Rd, near the intersection of Platt Rd, Hamilton, about 1am today.

Police are hoping a broken car wing mirror will hold the key to solving a hit and run on the outskirts of Hamilton.

A pedestrian was injured after being hit by a car as they walked along Tauwhare Rd, near Platt Rd, Tamahere about 1am today.

In a post on its Facebook page, Waikato District Police said the car fled the scene without stopping.

"The pedestrian was located a short time later and taken to Waikato Hospital with moderate injuries.

"If this wing mirror belongs to you or if you know whose it is, please give the Hamilton Police Station a call on 07 8586200 or send us a private message.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who was driving along Tauwhare Rd around this time."

Police this afternoon were still no closer to finding the driver of the car and asked anyone who might know more to ring them on 07 858 6200 or alternatively anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
