The Blues have dominated the first half of the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific final, taking a commanding 20-3 lead over the Chiefs at halftime.

Akira Ioane and Caleb Clarke were the standout performers for the Blues, and they combined to score one of the tries of the tournament in the 21st minute.

It all started with Clarke’s crashing through the Chiefs’ defence, gaining 10 metres before Hoskins Sotutu made a strong surge towards the five-metre line. The Blues were awarded a penalty advantage, and they quickly moved the ball out to the backline. Rieko Ioane received the pass on the left edge and looked poised to score in the left corner, but he was pushed into touch just five metres away from the try line.

However, Ioane managed to flick a neat offload back inside to brother Akira, who was also being driven towards the sideline. In a moment of brilliance, Ioane successfully offloaded the ball back to Clarke, who caught it and powered his way over the try line in the left corner.
