A Ngaruawahia man accused of breaking into a Hamilton home and holding a knife to the throat of a toddler before getting involved in a scuffle with its father has made another brief appearance in court.

Samuel Pearson currently faces four charges in relation to the October 18 incident in Pukete.

The family were woken to the sound of a person entering their home through a rear door about 12.15am.

The father then confronted the alleged burglar and the two become involved in a tussle.

Appearing before Judge Noel Cocurullo, Pearson, 25, failed in his opposition to an in-court camera application by the Herald.

The details application was heard in chambers and can not be reported.

Through his lawyer Mike McIvor, he was remanded in further custody without plea on charges of assault with a weapon with intent to escape, assault using a knife as a weapon and aggravated burglary.

Pearson will reappear in court via audio visual link in two weeks.
