Millton Vineyard Clos de Ste. Anne Pinot Noir 2010 $55

One sniff instantly took me back to those chewy, red lovehearts you would get in your pick 'n' mix lolly selection. I love the ripe rhubarb and soft, savoury nuances in this wine (did I just say "nuance"?) and
its exotic cherry-cola character. Clean, firm yet cushioned with juicy raspberry and spice notes, this pinot noir boasts a warm, plump finish. www.millton.co.nz

The Islander Estate 'The Red' 2010 $19

Australia's Kangaroo Island is one of my favourite places. Beautiful beaches, artisan producers and vineyards. Frenchman Jaques Lurton clearly felt the same way when he and his wife Francoise decided to plant their vineyard there. This blend of malbec, cabernet franc, shiraz, viognier and grenache has plum, cherry, chocolate and mace flavours and a rich, rib-sticking texture. Brilliant with anything beefy and barbecued. www.finewinedelivery.co.nz
